Plastics are a lightweight, colourful, corrosion resistant and durable material to use for manufacture. Plastics are versatile too; depending on the application they can be a low cost commodity product or a high-performance engineering material.
There is a dizzying variety of plastic polymers and additives available, depending on the design criteria of your product. Advances in plastic materials and additives mean that increasingly plastic moulded components are replacing metal components in engineering applications. Standard materials such as polystyrene, polypropylene, nylon, PVC and polyethylene can be supplied reinforced with various materials and additives to modify their material properties.
We have a detailed knowledge of plastic polymers and specialist materials and can advise on which would work best for your particular application. We can also process specialist high performance injection moulding materials such as chemical resistant plastics, flame retardant plastics, medical grade plastics, antibacterial plastics, hi-flex plastics, and high rigidity and high strength plastics.
Common examples include the use of glass fibre to reinforce and strengthen, and carbon for conductivity. Talc can be used to increase stiffness, improve heat stability and lower material costs. There are also numerous specialist additives that can be used to achieve specific properties. We would be pleased to discuss your requirements and advise accordingly. We can also supply data sheets for materials that you are considering for your design.
